Marciela Anguiano

Marciela was a student in Lori Gomes’ Adult Computerized Office Technology class in Los Banos. Marciela came from the Empower Program. She had recently graduated from high school and really didn’t have much work experience. In fact, the only experience she had was working in the tomatoes. Marciela’s computer skills were very limited upon enrollment. During her training, she learned how to use the Microsoft Office Suite with such proficiency that she not only passed one MOS test, but two. Ms. Gomes has only had two other students pass two tests on the first try! Once she passed her tests, she was ready for a training site. She trained at Lorena Falasco Elementary School. Her site supervisor thought she was the best potential employee for a position that they were planning to open soon, but in the meantime, another school grabbed her because of her abilities and skills. She is now a bi-lingual clerical aide at Westside Intermediate School where she performs all of the CELDT testing for students that come from a second language home. She tests over 250 students in the beginning of the year, and several students weekly after that as new students enroll at the school.
Ms. Gomes chose Maricela as a student success story because Maricela had near perfect attendance and punctuality, was very hardworking, focused, and dedicated to learning the necessary skills to make her successful in a business environment.
