Miguel Santoyo

Miguel

Miguel Santoyo graduated from Le Grand High School in June, 2005. He was enrolled in Ramiro Govea’s ROP Career Planning class during his junior and senior years. The first year of Career Planning he was able to learn about various careers and participated in the different fundraising opportunities that the class offers. The second year he was Mr. Govea’s TA and he was an excellent aide. He was also part of the Youth Opportunity Program which gave him the opportunity to work at the Planada Elementary School for 2 straight summers. While he was there he was in charge of mowing the school lawn, watering trees, installing sprinklers, and a lot of the janitorial jobs.

The principal at the elementary school loved having him there and was going to hire him but at that time he was not 18 years old. So Miguel continued to work there as community service. He helped the janitors with all of the duties and the school then sent Miguel to a training session so he would be able to drive the electric carts that they own. Mr. Chavez relied on Miguel so much that he had him be the score keeper for the basketball games. Miguel learned many skills while he worked there and also while he completed countless hours of community service.

Miguel acquired many janitorial skills while working at the elementary and was in need of a job so the principal at the elementary put in a good word for him. He was hired as an assistant groundskeeper at Le Grand High School in August of 2005. He attends college in the mornings since his main goal is to become a Sheriff Deputy and then returns to Le Grand to work with the janitorial staff. The janitors really enjoy working with Miguel since he is hard working, respectful, and very courteous. He is an asset to Le Grand High School and deserves to be recognized.
