Vanessa Trevino

Vanessa Trevino exemplifies a student dedicated to a career pathway, namely the Early Childhood Education/ Child Development pathway. She has always indicated an interest in learning about and working with children in preparation for a career in education.
Vanessa is a 2005 graduate of Golden Valley High School. She was in Kristi Davis’ ROP Careers with Infants and Toddlers classes during her junior and senior years, successfully earning college credit through Merced College. Vanessa first indicated her interest in learning about children when she enrolled in the Child Development A Introductory class during her freshmen year; her performance in this class qualified her for participation in the Child Development Lab class during her sophomore year. Her ROP and Lab worksite was at the MUHSD Child Development Center. At site Vanessa received training in the supervision and care of infants and toddlers and acquired knowledge in the organization and operation of a quality Child Development Center. With each year of training Vanessa assumed greater responsibilities, serving as a mentor for newer students in the program.
Vanessa received recognition for her achievements by being selected as an Award of Excellence Winner for 2004 and as the 2005 Bank of America Award Certificate Winner for Family and Consumer Science; all a result of her outstanding academic achievement.
Vanessa is very self-disciplined and motivated to learn and perform at her best. Upon graduation from Golden Valley, Vanessa applied for and was selected as our Student Scholar for the 2005-2006 school year. Selection as a scholar affords qualified graduates from our program an opportunity to gain part-time employment at the Child Development Center. Requirements include high performance in our program and continuing education at Merced College, enrolling in both Early Childhood Education classes and required classes for graduation from Merced Community College. Vanessa continues to grow in her experience and is making an outstanding contribution to the daily operation of our Child Development Center.
